English: 75 questions in 45 minutes
Tests grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, and rhetorical skills -
Math: 60 questions in 60 minutes
Covers algebra, geometry, statistics, and trigonometry
The ACT includes more geometry and trigonometry than the SAT, and many students find ACT Math more difficult to prepare for without structured support -
Reading: 40 questions in 35 minutes
Measures comprehension, inference, and understanding of main ideas -
Science (optional): 40 questions in 35 minutes
Focuses on interpreting data, tables, and scientific scenarios with minimal discreet scientific knowledge -
Writing (optional): 1 essay in 40 minutes

Should My Student take the ACT or the SAT?
The best way to decide is simple. Take a full-length practice test of each and see which one feels more comfortable and produces a higher score. This gives students a clear, personalized sense of which exam is the better fit.
In general, the SAT Math section is more focused on algebra, while the ACT Math section includes more geometry and trigonometry, which some students find more difficult to prepare for.
